English novelist Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797–1851) wrote Frankenstein during a summer spent near Lake Geneva, Switzerland, with her betrothed Percy Bysshe Shelley, her stepsister Claire Clairmont, poet George Gordon Byron and Lord Byron's physician John William Polidori. Inclement weather kept the group indoors, and they challenged one another to write fantastic tales. Shelley's was the result of a haunting vision she described as seeing the pale student of unhallowed arts kneeling beside the thing he had put together.

This book is featured on The Book Club with Michael Knowles, PragerU's show dedicated to the great books of Western civilization. In this episode, Michael Knowles is joined by Gina Bontempo to discuss the first science fiction novel ever written, and its cautionary tale of failed humanity, the dangers of scientific overreach and the universal longing for belonging.

Exactly the same

The book is heavy and the hardcover is steady. The gold on the spine flickers a little leaving a little gold dust. Overall very nice

Haute Couture Presentation of a Timeless Novel

The story of Frankenstein is remarkable and has been reviewed by thousands for two centuries who are much more eloquent than I am, so won’t waste anyone’s time with that except to say that no movie adaptation has done or ever will do author Mary Shelley justice, imo. Her work, enjoyed, discussed, analyzed and studied by millions, has more than earned the right to be referred to as a classic. That being said, the appearance and quality of this particular edition is so lovely that it might trigger an obsession if not careful, and it certainly deserves the spotlight in any home library. Peter Pauper Press and Masterpiece Library set the bar, and I would love to have an entire home full of beautifully bound books that look like this.

Beautiful hardback book

My daughter wanted some classic literature books in hardback covers for the bookself. I wasn't sure which ones to buy off amazon so I decided to buy a few different ones and compare qualities. This one if by far the nicest copy. I like the size of the book. I love the embossed cover. I love the spine of the book. The pages are thick and the print is clear and easy to read. The price is amazing of the quality. I wish I had gotten the other books all from the same publisher.

Frankenstein: Still Creepy, Still Awesome

Frankenstein is a classic for a reason. This edition is GORGEOUS, and the story still gives chills—plus, it’s a reminder that building your own monster probably isn’t the best DIY project. Perfect for your collection… or just to feel better about your own questionable life choices.
