The Rational Bible: Numbers

Excellent easy to read breakdown that reads through with a narrative guide tone that makes it a page turner. I am absolutely impressed, pleased, and grateful for the collection.

i am so thrilled with this book as it goes in depth to the book of Numbers in a very understandable way.

it's great

Great set of books, clear, and very informative.

I have just started reading The Rational Bible. I have been enjoying it! It is easy to read and understand. I am so happy that I purchased all four books. I look forward to reading every evening now. I highly recommend the books to everyone. Thank You Dennis Prager.

Last week, I received the 4th Volume of Denis Prager's Rational Bible. I am excited to jump into it soon.

I have just begun reading the books but thus far I am so very impressed. The manner in which the manuscripts

Just received my order of books. Very high quality materials. Looking forward to using them weekly. Well worth the investment.

Beautiful book! Excellent commentary.

Knowledgeable

Excellent quality and super affordable. I purchased all that are available now. Still waiting on one more to be released

Another great book from Mr. Prager with helpful insights. His Torah teachings are valuable.

The Bible explained rationally

There’s only one problem with this excellent series. LEVITICUS is still missing! And there’s no indication when it might be published.OK, there’s one more problem with all the books in this series. Yes I understand that the author wants to reach the widest possible audience. But still the titles should be the original Hebrew titles, (1) in Hebrew and (2) in transliteration and definitely (3) in the correct English translation, with (4) the latinized Christian titles in parentheses. The Romans did not write the Torah!

Dennis Prager has written four commentaries on the Torah, Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy and this one. Our Bible study group has thoroughly enjoyed them all, a wealth of information for Jew and Christian alike. We pray for his health and strength to finish Leviticus.

Excellent quality book.

I've read Dennis Prager's insightful commentaries on Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy. As a pastor, commentaries tend to be reference books, for sermon preparation, and not necessarily read cover-to-cover. These are exceptions to the rule. I've been reading these as part of my daily devotions, a few pages a day. What sets them apart is Prager's evangelical Hebraic perspective. Most fellow Protestant pastors agree these are some of the best commentaries they've read. The scholarship is there, helped by Rabbi (and noted author) Joseph Telushkin, but also the insights. Unique to these is the essays that expand on ideas raised from the Biblical text. While scholarly, Prager is a master of communication, making them very readable. We can only pray that, considering his horrific injury, he will be able to complete the Torah with Leviticus.

just what I needed, and expected..

OUTSTANDING!!! Much Food For Thought, A Must Read !!!

Prager does a good job with my least favorite book of the bible. Not too much of interest to me, but Dennis always has essays that benefit the reader understand the text

Dennis Prager writes in an engaging conversational style while teaching interesting Bible facts. Well written and nicely bound. Giftable.

Another great Torah explanation book by Dennis Prager where he goes line by line through the book of Numbers explaining its meaning to both the ancient and modern Jews, but also discusses themes relevant to Christianity. This is just one of the books in his Rational Bible series .. there is also Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy, plus The Rational Passover Haggadah. He is currently working on the last book in his series on the Torah: Leviticus .. slowed down by his serious accident a few months ago. All 5 books, plus his other books, are good reads for Christians and Jews, and for anyone who want to understand the Bible. Highly recommended.

Another good volume in a great series.

My thoughts here are largely the same as my thoughts about the rest of Prager’s series so far. Indeed, even calling it a series is kind of a misnomer. Really, it’s one long work divided into five volumes (of which four have been published so far, and we’re all hoping for Prager’s full recovery from his recent injury both for his own sake and so he can finish Leviticus). When I’ve read previous volumes, I’ve pointed out that obviously, readers will come at this book from a variety of perspectives. There are certain passages atheists will struggle to understand even despite Prager’s best attempts to explain (atheists might argue explain away) some of the difficult passages. Christians will notice a lack of commentary pointing toward what they believe are foreshadowings of the New Testament. And though Prager’s Jewish commentary will feel most comfortable to the Jewish people, different movements within Judaism might agree or disagree on a variety of points. But what’s been particularly useful for me as I read the series, and the same is true here in Numbers, is that it’s helpful to get the Jewish perspective on these stories. Coming from a Christian background and also having read a fair amount of non-religious biblical criticism, I was largely aware of those arguments and perspectives. Because Christians and Jews share these books in common, the Jewish and Christian perspectives are quite similar but not identical and it's been useful for me to see how Prager has connected the stories to Talmudic commentaries as well as how he has tied many of the issues to modern social problems. Herein lies deep wisdom and it’s well worth studying. My biggest criticism is barely a criticism but it needs to be mentioned: this is quite repetitive. This is not the author’s fault. He set out to write a line-by-line commentary, and because the Bible itself often repeats points, many of Prager’s commentaries additionally become quite repetitive. For his longer points—the ones about which he wrote entire essays—he solves this problem simply and effectively by pointing the reader to those essays whenever a repeated point comes up rather than actually rewriting the whole thing. That said, small points are often repeated, and if you come into this book shortly after reading his Exodus commentary (again, because his Leviticus hasn’t been published yet), the repetition will be even more noticeable because Numbers does deal with a lot of the same themes as Exodus. That said, though Prager’s commentaries won’t offer anything particularly new or groundbreaking for those who are well versed in Torah or Bible scholarship, those readers who have only ever read the Bible superficially before will find his insights quite useful, especially when it comes to somewhat strange or potentially confusing stories like the test of bitter water or the story of Baalam and his donkey. I’m not going to say Prager’s commentary is the final word on those or any other matters, but I did find it quite useful. I probably didn’t like this commentary quite as much as I did the Exodus volume—but then again, I personally find the Exodus narrative itself even more engaging, so that’s probably as much to do with the source material as with the commentary itself.

Just started perusing this book. It’s wonderful!

Everyone should read every one of Dennis Prager’s books. This is no exception. Read this! It is wonderful and so enlightening.

Good

Very informative, even for Christians.
